Organized by a trio of art comics entrepreneurs—PictureBox publisher Dan Nadel, Desert Island owner Gabe Fowler and comics expert Bill Kartalopoulos—the Brooklyn Comics and Graphics Festival has grown into one of the best small press comics festivals in the country. The curated, invitation-only show featured appearances by veteran artists like Art Speigelman, Ben Katchor, Jay Lynch, Chris Ware and Dean Haspiel, as well as such artists as Lillie Carre, the husband/wife team Family Sohn, Rina Ayuyang and her new publishing venture Yam Books and many others.
Held on two levels of a Catholic Church facility in Williamsburg, Brookyn, admission to the BC&GF is free and the fans took full advantage to crowd the place and spend freely. Indeed both levels of the church were jammed with throngs of enthusiastic fans the entire day and at times crowds were so thick it was impossible to even get close to the tables to see the books. PW Comics World was on hand all day at the show and we’ve captured pictures of many of the artists, publishers and great books on hand this year.
