Shuster Award Winners
Jeff Lemire won the Joe Shuster Award for Outstanding Canadian Comic Book Cartoonist at Toronto’s Sequential Art Symposium. Lemire is the creator of the EssexCountytrilogy, published by Top Shelf. The other winners can be found at the Shuster Award website.

New David B. from NBM
NBM will publish acclaimed French comics artist David B’s new graphic novel, Nineteen Dreams, in October of 2008. David B. is the author Epileptic. The new book features nineteen of David B’s dreams. The book will cost $14.95. More information can be found at the NBM website.

PW The Beat:Tokyopop, San Diego, More
Over at the Beat, Heidi MacDonald offers her perspectives on the rumors swirling around Tokyopop; interviews David Glanzer, marketing and public relations director of Comic-Con International: San Diego; and takes note of a new imprint being launched by Platinum Comics and Vanguard Animation that will focus on print comics and films based on them.

Hotwire Comics Show
An art show will be held for the Hotwire comic anthology at the Scott Eder Gallery in Brooklyn. The show opened last week and will feature work by 18 artists including Ivan Brunetti, Gleen Head, Sam Hendersan, Tony Millionaire, Johnny Ryan, David Sandlin, and R. Sikoryak. June Zuda Competition
The June Zuda Comics competition is underway and this months contestants and their comics can be viewed at the Zuda website. May’s winner, Celadore by Caanan Grall, can also be viewed at the Zuda website.

MediaBistro Comics Class
MediaBistro.com is offering its first online class on comic-book and graphic novel writing. The course will be taught by David Seidman, who wrote for Simpson’s Comics and wrote the graphic novel Samuel Morse and the Telegraph. The class will focus on genres, formats and styles; the basics pf comics’s contracts; and self publishing. The course will be four weeks long, from June 16through July 14.
