Lion Forge, an independent comics publisher, announced a restructuring of the company that includes the layoffs of 12 employees.
Lion Forge senior publicist Jeremy Atkins confirmed the number of layoffs. No names were released. Atkins said, this is "the only round of restructuring planned at the moment." News of the layoffs was first reported on the Bleeding Cool news site.
Lion Forge specializes in publishing graphic novels. The house has grown rapidly since about 2016, adding staff and growing the size of its publishing program.
In an interview with PW in September, Lion Forge founder David Steward II said the house had about 60 employees and planned to publish about 130 titles this year.
In a prepared statement, the company said, “We are restructuring from the top down, and across departments to ensure that our organization’s size and structure remains in line with our sales, as well as providing support for future increase in title output."
The statement continued: “While the company remains healthy, we have taken a hard look at how best to focus our efforts for continued success. As part of this process, we have made some difficult decisions, and none more difficult than in the case of personnel. As we move forward, we are working to continue to best position the company for both critical and sales success in a changing market.”
