Ten Speed Press has announced the launch of its new graphic imprint, Ten Speed Graphic. An imprint of the Crown Publishing Group at Penguin Random House, Ten Speed said its graphic imprint will publish "distinctive, high-quality graphic books from a diverse array of the industry’s top creators and emerging voices," including literary adaptations, global webcomics, biography, memoir, history, how-to, fiction, and licensed entertainment titles.
The first book release under the Ten Speed Graphic colophon will be an adaptation of Kiersten White’s national bestselling horror-thriller novel Hide, out September 12, with five more titles out fall 2023. Those include an adaptation of Richard Adams’s classic novel Watership Down; Voyaging, Volume One by George R. R. Martin and Raya Golden; Nora Krug’s highly anticipated Diaries of War; Tom Scioli’s graphic biography of Stan Lee, I Am Stan; and Julio Anta and Yasmín Flores Montañez’s Sí, Se Puede: The Latino Heroes Who Changed the United States.
“Our imprint is new, but our interest and expertise are not—we’ve been ramping up our presence in the graphic category for nearly a decade and our list of published titles includes three New York Times bestsellers and one Eisner award winner,” said Kaitlin Ketchum, editorial director for art, graphic, and popular culture books at Ten Speed. “We’re excited by the explosion of creativity in the graphic books space and, with more than 50 titles in our pipeline, we are deeply committed to the future of the category. We have an incredibly passionate core team—including senior editor Vedika Khanna, senior art director Chloe Rawlins, and designer Meggie Ramm—all of whom bring a wealth of expertise to our publishing at Ten Speed Graphic.”
On the imprint's list of future releases include a graphic memoir by acclaimed artist Ai Weiwei, The Hoof Lady by Reservation Dogs star Devery Jacobs and Canadian musician, web series creator, and writer D.W. Waterson; a horror collection by YouTube sensation MrBallen, and print editions of the hit WEBTOON comics Nothing Special by Katie Cook; The Strange Tales of Oscar Zahn by Tri Vuong; and Sweet Home by Carnby Kim and Youngchan Hwang.
According to Ten Speed, its new colophon will be added to backlist graphic titles as they are reprinted.
“The highly acclaimed, bestselling graphic books we’ve published across a range of topics are the foundation for the full-scale program that Ten Speed Graphic will be home to,” said Aaron Wehner, executive v-p of Crown Publishing and Publisher, Clarkson Potter and Ten Speed Press. “With the growing demand for high-quality, innovative, and immersive graphic content around the world, Ten Speed Graphic and the team behind it will go deeper into this dynamic space, particularly in fiction, webcomic adaptations, and licensed publishing. The imprint will also further the mission of the Crown Publishing Group to be a premier destination for creative talent interested in exploring the full range of storytelling formats.”
