With the stock prices of 11 of the 13 companies in the Publishers Weekly Stock Index rising in May, the PWSI increased 2.6% in the month. Houghton Mifflin Harcourt had the largest gain helped by its announcement in mid-May that it was repurchasing some of the shares owned by stockholders affiliated with HMH investors Paulson & Co. The share price of Educational Development Corp. increased 11.1% in the month, driven in part by its announcement in late May that it had record revenue in the fiscal year ended Feb. 28, 2015. Books-A-Million’s share price rose 8.4% in the month, and at $3.10 per share BAM’s shares were still selling well above the $2.75 per share offer the Anderson family has made to take the retailer private.
