Another company in the traditional book industry supply chain has entered the self-publishing market. Dexter, Mich.-based printer Thomson-Shore has acquired PublishNext, which provides various services to authors and small publishers, as well as its distribution subsidiary, Seattle Book Company. PublishNext was founded by Randy Kuckuck, who held executive spots at several printers and founded the publishing company Scarborough House.
Kuckuck will join Thomson-Shore as v-p of publishing services and distribution. Thomson-Shore will integrate PublishNext’s operations into its own to, in the words of T-S president Kevin Spall, “create a seamless experience for customers.” The PublishNext and Seattle Book Company names and brand will be maintained, Spall added. According to Spall, the purchase reflects Thomson-Shore’s “continuous commitment to our customers and filling their business needs.”
