The Hachette Book Group has completed its acquisition of the Worthy Publishing Group. HBG announced the deal, to buy Worthy's entire publishing business, in August.
Included in the purchase are Worthy’s adult imprints Worthy Books, Museum of the Bible, Ellie Clare Gifts, and Worthy Inspired, as well as its children’s imprint, WorthyKids/Ideals. Together, Worthy and Hachette Nashville will publish approximately 135 titles annually, along with the combined backlist of both publishers.
According to HBG, Worthy will join Hachette’s Nashville publishing division, which also includes the FaithWords and Center Street imprints. Worthy founder Byron Williamson will become v-p, publishing development for Hachette Nashville, and will join HBG’s senior management group.
“I couldn’t be more pleased to welcome Worthy’s superb authors to Hachette. This acquisition will strengthen our position in the Christian trade market and expand our range of publishing in this important area,” said Hachette Nashville publisher Rolf Zettersten in a statement.
Worthy will move sales and distribution to HBG in early 2019 but, until further notice, Worthy will continue to be sold by Capitol Christian Music Group as well as commissioned rep groups.
