Andrews McMeel Publishing has bought the publication and sales distribution rights to 10 titles by women studies scholar Becca Anderson from Mango Publishing. Terms of the deal, which closed August 30, were not disclosed. Among the books acquired is Badass Affirmations, which has sold more than 350,000 copies since its publication in 2018.
“We are energized by the opportunity to assume publication of Becca’s exceptional collection of titles,” said Andrews McMeel CEO and publisher Kirsty Melville in a statement. She pointed to Badass Affirmations as “an outstanding example of her distinguished talent in recognizing the sage advice, self-care guidance, and inspirational quotes that encourage and motivate women to live life to its fullest.” Melville added that Andrew McMeel looks forward to publishing additional titles by Anderson.
The is the second divestiture Mango has made in a year after several years of acquiring companies. Last summer, Mango sold the Conari Press, Bonhomie Press, and Woo! Jr. imprints to Turner Publishing. The sale, Mango CEO Chris McKinney told PW, will allow the publisher to focus on growing its core business of specialized nonfiction titles. Earlier this summer, Mango formed the Books That Save Lives imprint, which is being overseen by Mango publisher Brenda Knight.
