The trend towards printers adding digital presses continues with Webcom and Gasch Printing installing new equipment.
Webcom’s installation of a new HP T350 Color Inkjet Web Press is part of a new $8 million investment the company is making in 2012 that includes upgrading its hardware and software systems to accommodate publishers’ demand for custom, short run books. “We’ve seen a 31% increase in the number of orders as run lengths continue to shift in favor of a short-run model and as color solutions are introduced,” said Gerry Cronin, digital product manager. The new investment follows $12 million in improvements made in the last 18 months that included the T300 installed just over a year ago. The HP T350 inkjet press will be in full production by March.
