Finding “good homes for good projects” is the ongoing mission for Chang Jiang Printing Media founder and marketing director Samuel Chung. “By expanding our sourcing of good homes outside of China—into India, Malaysia, South Korea, Thailand, Vietnam, and even Eastern Europe, for instance—we are providing peace-of-mind service to all our customers.”
Chung’s two wholly owned manufacturing facilities in Shanghai and Chengdu, with around 200 and 300 workers, respectively, continue to work on complex pop-up and hand assembly projects or those with tight deadlines or special finishes.
Chung has also added offices in California and Georgia in the U.S. as well as in Paris. “The goal is about providing better services to clients while minimizing time zone differences. This is our latest strategic move while we consider setting up a production office, or several such offices, in Southeast Asia to back up our business partners there.”
“Service is embedded in our DNA, and our clients are very happy with the real-time response from our offices, including those in Guangzhou, Hong Kong, and Shanghai for operational communications,” Chung says. “We also offer project tracking through our website. Due to supply-chain issues, most clients are becoming very interested in real-time tracking of their project shipments. And while supply-chain disruptions have all but disappeared now, logistical nightmares have persisted, especially given the issues at the Panama and Suez canals, and this is something that publishing clients are worried about. We spend a lot of time monitoring the logistics to ensure that the finished products arrive safely and on time.”
Demand for children’s boardbooks and cookbooks continues to be strong, Chung says. “For us, meeting that demand is not an issue. Keeping up with the greener applications and safety requirements that clients are demanding for their projects is a different matter altogether. However, our team, including 30 production experts, is highly trained in green and safety requirements and is working closely with our partners to make sure that they are in compliance.”
To cope with the increasing volume of business, Chung is looking at further training his expanding team of customer service personnel. “We want to make sure that all our clients enjoy working with Chang Jiang and that their experiences with us are based on mutual trust and continuous exchanges of ideas. This is the only healthy and sustainable way to move forward and grow together.
