Authors on this morning’s Today show:

Anthony Bourdain, whose Medium Raw: A Bloody Valentine to the World of Food and the People Who Cook (Ecco, 978-0061718946, $26.99) pubs tomorrow.

Amy Wilson wondered When Did I Get Like This? The Screamer, the Worrier, the Dinosaur-Chicken-Nugget-Buyer, and Other Mothers I Swore I'd Never Be (William Morrow, 978-0061956959, $23.99).

Both Good Morning America and Nightline host Warren Buffett's big sister Doris Buffett, the subject of Michael Zitz's book Giving it All Away: The Doris Buffett Story (The Permanent Press, 978-1579622091, $28). Tomorrow, she’s on CNN's American Morning.

Authors on today’s Leonard Lopate Show:

Miguel Syjuco talked about his novel Ilustrado (FS&G, 978-0374174781, $26; Tantor unabridged CD, $34.99), which won the 2008 Man Asian Prize before it was even published. PW’s starred review declared “this dizzying and ambitious novel marks an auspicious start to Syjuco's career. Though murky at times, this imaginative first novel shows considerable ingenuity in binding its divergent threads into a satisfying, meaningful story.”

Filmmaker John Waters introduced his Role Models (FS&G, 978-0374251475, $25; Tantor unabridged CD, $29.99). PW thought “Waters's war against the tyranny of good taste feels tired, his taboo-breaking rote, his kitsch-mongering snobbish.” Tomorrow, he visits The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson.

The Brian Lehrer Show met with Make magazine editor Mark Frauenfelder, whose book is Made by Hand: Searching for Meaning in a Throwaway World (Portfolio, 978-1591843320 $25.95; Tantor unabridged CD, $29.99). PW thought “People have hobbies because they are interesting and fun; by inflating hobbyism into a belief system, Frauenfelder doesn't add much to their appeal.”

This evening on The Colbert Report: Jonathan Alter, Newsweek columnist and author of The Promise: President Obama, Year One (Simon & Schuster, 978-1439101193, $28).

Yesterday on NPR's Weekend Edition: Matt Dembicki, editor of Trickster: Native American Tales: A Graphic Collection (Fulcrum Publishing, 978-1555917241, $22.95). PW wrote “Many of the stories, some of which involve tribespeople as well as animals, are told through captions, as though listening to an elder and envisioning the images he describes. The diverse styles are presented in lavish color in this thick, handsome volume.”

Saturday on NPR’s On the Media, Mexico observer Charles Bowden discussed Dreamland: The Way Out of Juarez (Univ. of Texas Press, 978-0292722071, $19.95), a combination of reportage, poetry, police transcripts, and illustrations of life and death in that murderous city.
