Today show hosted psychiatrist Dr. Ish Major, author of Little White Whys: A Woman's Guide Through the Lies Men Tell and Why (iUniverse, 978-0595518180, $24.95).

The Diane Rehm Show interviewed journalist William Powers, whose Hamlet's BlackBerry: A Practical Philosophy for Building a Good Life in the Digital Age (Harper, 978-0061687167, $24.99) pubbed last week. PW found it an “incisive critique of online life and its discontents. Powers deftly blends an appreciation of the advantages of information technology and a shrewd assessment of its pitfalls into a compelling call to disconnect.”

NPR’s All Things Considered talked to Lauren Belfer about her novel A Fierce Radiance (Harper, 978-0061252518, $25.99). PW thought “the well-researched scenes bring war-time New York City to life, capturing the anxiety-ridden period.”

Authors on today’s Leonard Lopate Show:

Maggie Pouncey discussed her debut novel Perfect Reader (Pantheon, 978-0307378743, $24.95). PW’s review had this to say: “Pouncey has skillfully created a portrait of smalltown academia, where the relationships between reader and text are just as elusive and complex as the relationships between father and daughter, husband and wife, or between two lovers.”

Boston journalist Andrew Rimas, co-author of Empires of Food: Feast, Famine, and the Rise and Fall of Civilizations (Free Press, 978-1439101896, $27),which PW called a “gloomy ecohistory. Further, they fail to convince on why technological innovations in agriculture will fail, and lapse into a dubious brief for locavorism.”

On The View, former Top Chef contestant and one-time Le Cirque underling Spike Mendelsohn served up The Good Stuff Cookbook: Burgers, Fries, Shakes, Wedges, and More (Wiley, 978-0470527924, $24.95), which PW said “expands upon his eatery's menu to offer up 120 comfort foods with attitudes.”

This evening on The Daily Show, Marilynne Robinson discusses Absence of Mind: The Dispelling of Inwardness from the Modern Myth of the Self (Yale Univ. Press, 978-0300145182, $24).
