The Leonard Lopate Show talked with Ina Rikle, translator of 19th-century Dutch novelist Louis Couperus’s Eline Vere (Archipelago Books, 978-0981955742, $17).

On The Diane Rehm Show: Jennifer Arnold, author of Through a Dog's Eyes (Spiegel & Grau, 978-1400068883, $25; RH Audio unabridged CD, $30), which pubbed last week. From PW’s review: “Engagingly written with a perfect balance of science and observation, this book... is a worthy tribute to our canine friends.”

This evening, The Colbert Report interviews Pulitzer Prize–winning journalist Thomas French, author of Zoo Story: Life in the Garden of Captives (Hyperion, 978-1401323462, $24.99; Tantor unabridged CD, $34.99). PW considered it “A thoughtful and moving but unsentimental portrait of life in captivity and a broad introduction to some of its most salient—and intractable—dilemmas.”

On The Daily Show, American studies professor Edward P. Kohn recalls Hot Time in the Old Town: The Great Heat Wave of 1896 and the Making of Theodore Roosevelt (Basic Books, 978-0465013364, $27.95).
