    At Penguin Random House's flagship imprint, Andy Ward has been promoted to publisher, while Knopf's Robin Desser has been tapped as senior v-p and editor-in-chief. Ward is replacing Susan Kamil, who died, suddenly, last month.

  • Habash Departs, Varno Named Fiction Reviews Editor at PW; Cramer Goes Full-Time

    David Varno has been named fiction reviews editor, effective November 18, replacing Gabe Habash, who will leave the company on November 15. Phoebe Cramer is now a full-time associate reviews editor, covering genre fiction.

  • Herz Up, Messitte Out at Knopf Doubleday

    Suzanne Herz, executive v-p and executive director of publishing at Doubleday, will replace Anne Messitte as publisher of Vintage/Anchor; Messitte will leave the company in December. Todd Doughty has been promoted to senior v-p and deputy publisher at Doubleday.

  • Gleick to Succeed Scharlatt as Algonquin Publisher

    Elisabeth Scharlatt, publisher of Algonquin Books of Chapel Hill, will retire on December 1 after 30 years with the company, and Workman Publishing has named editorial director Betsy Gleick the next head of the imprint.

  • Little Free Library, Founder's Family Clash Over Organization's Direction

    After Little Free Library, the Wisconsin nonprofit launched 10 years ago by the late Todd Bol, recently applied for three trademarks, Bol's family called foul, claiming that the literacy organization is dishonoring Bol's legacy.

    Kathryn Court, president and publisher of Penguin Books, will retire at the end of the year after 42 years at the publishing house.
