Peter Givler, longtime executive director of the Association of American University Presses has announced plans to retire—but with a June, 2013 date, it’s a little too early for strolls down memory lane, or talk of future plans or possible replacements at AAUP. “I’m not in a retirement frame of mind, and I’m not sure I ever will be.” Givler told PW. “There’s plenty to do in the next 18 months, and after that, if there are ways for me to continue to be useful to the association and its members, then that’s what I’ll do.” Givler has helmed the AAUP since 1997. Prior to that, he was director of the Ohio State University Press for 10 years.

In addition to his duties at AAUP, Givler is involved with a number of scholarly communication organizations. He is currently president of the International Federation of Scholarly Publishers, Chair of the Copyright Committee of the International Publishers Association (IPA), and a member of the board of directors of the Book Industry Study Group. He also was part of the Library of Congress’s Section 108 Study Group, whose report was published in 2008.
