Senior editor at Farrar, Straus, and Giroux Paul Elie will join the Georgetown University faculty as a senior fellow with the Berkley Center for Religion, Peace and World Affairs, working out of New York.
Elie, who is also the author of PEN/Martha Albrand Prize-winning The Life You Save May Be Your Own, has been with FSG since 1993, when he joined as Jonathan Galassi's assistant. He has worked with Thomas L. Friedman, Eliza Griswold, Ted Hughes, and Robert Pinsky, among others.
As a senior fellow with the Berkley Center, Elie will complete his new book, Soundabout; write other books; continue his work as a journalist and essayist; take a role in the activities of the Berkley Center, in Washington, D.C.; and direct a partnership between Georgetown and StoryCorps, the acclaimed Brooklyn-based nonprofit organization --- a project which will gather, record, and share ordinary Americans' stories of the role of religious belief in their lives.
