Mark Oppegard, CEO of Nebraska Book Company, is retiring and will be replaced by Barry Major, the current president abd chief operating officer at NBC. Oppegard will continue to serve as executive v-p until the transition of the new CEO and COO are complete. The transition is expected to take several months. Steven Clemente, a current senior v-p, has been named to fill Major's previous position as president and COO. The company, which filed for Chapter 11 last June, has a confirmation hearing set for May 30 to get court approval for its restructuring plan.
Oppegard began his career with Nebraska Book Company in 1970 as a part-time student employee.and was named CEO in 1998. Major has 13 years experience in the college bookstore market. Major began his career with NBC in 1999, when he was hired as the company's COO. Clemente joined the company in early 2010 as a senior v-p of the college store division's Neebo brand.
