Dawn Davis, who had been publisher of HarperCollins’s Amistad Press imprint, will join the Atria Publishing Group as v-p and publisher of a new, yet-to-be-named imprint. She will start April 1 and report to Judith Curr, Atria Group president and publisher.
According to Atria, Davis’ new imprint “will encompass the best in literary fiction, narrative nonfiction, journalism, memoirs and pop culture, and drawn from a wide range of authors of all backgrounds.” While at Amistad, she published numerous well-known, acclaimed authors including some bestselling African-American authors, among them Edward P. Jones, whose The Known World won the Pulitzer Prize, National Book Critics Circle and IMPAC Awards for Fiction; Steve Harvey, author of the bestsellers Straight Talk, No Chaser and Act Like A lady, Think Like a Man; and Attica Locke, author of Black Water Rising, a finalist for the Los Angeles Times Book Prize and the Edgar Award.
