A little more than one year after being named executive director of the Book Industry Study Group, Mark Kuyper has resigned. In a brief announcement, BISG said that Kuyper’s resignation is effective immediately and that he intends to “explore other areas of interest.”
Kuyper took over as executive director in June 2015 following the departure of Len Vlahos who left to buy Tattered Cover Book Store. Prior to moving to BISG, Kuyper was president and CEO of the Evangelical Christian Publishers Association. He was also a BISG board member.
“We wish Mark the very best in all his future endeavors,” said Tara Catogge of Quarto Publishing Group USA Inc. and chair of the BISG board. A search for a new executive director has already started, BISG said.
Kuyper said he was proud of the changes he was able to institute during his tenure, which will be able “to support BISG and its members’ education and research needs into the next decade."
The BISG annual meeting is planned for September 30 in New York and it was unclear Wednesday afternoon if a new executive director will be in place by that date.
