Welcome to the ninth edition of Star Watch, our annual program dedicated to recognizing and honoring rising talent in the publishing and bookselling businesses.
This year’s group is as strong as ever, showcasing the bright minds who’ll be the driving force of the books biz for many years to come.We took a slightly different approach this year in profiling the honorees and asked them, among other things, what advice they would give to themselves at the start of their careers. All of the answers are smart and surprising, and it’s worth noting some of the common themes that run throughout: speak up, trust your judgment, don’t shy away from new experiences, and read (and then read some more). We also heard from our honorees’ colleagues, who often highlighted their kindness, generosity, and collaborative ethos.
These virtues rang out from across the country and all sectors of the business. If this is a bellwether of where we’re at and where we’re going, and if the individuals highlighted on the following pages are indeed the future of publishing, we’re going to be in great hands.
