To promote five of its summer releases, Simon & Schuster's Free Press imprint is publishing a e-book, as well as an app, with excerpts from the books. In the app version of The Free Press Summer Fiction Sampler, along with the excerpts, are author videos, photos and audio clips, among other interactive features. The books in the e-book and the app are: Anuradha Roy The Folded Earth; Frances Greenslade's Shelter; Camilla Grebe and Åsa Träff's Some Kind of Peace; Katie Kitamura's Gone to the Forest; and Morgan McCarthy's The Other Half of Me.
Free Press made the app in-house with the Adobe Publishing Digital Suite. Claire Kelley, marketing manager at Free Press and the creator of the app, said the hope is to tap into the growing number of consumers who are reading on tablets and e-readers.
