A Los Angeles-based film company specializing in cinematic book trailers launched a Kickstarter campaign Monday to crowdfund a new batch of literary shorts.
Red 14 Films, founded by writer Adam Cushman and cameraman Mike Sandow in 2011, has partnered with four authors to produce trailers for the writers' most recent books. The titles in the campaign include:
Neighbors of Nothing, Jason Ockert (Dzanc Books)
In the House Upon the Dirt Between the Lake and the Woods, Matt Bell (Soho Press)
This Jealous Earth, Scott Dominic Carpenter (MG Press)
The Stud Book, Monica Drake (Crown/Hogarth)
If the projected $10,000 budget isn't raised before the Aug. 24, 2013 deadline, the pledges will be nullified and the films will go unfunded. With 37 days to go in the Kickstarter campaign, the project has thus far raised $380.
“The authors and the publishers are behind this in a big way,” said Cushman. “There’s an opportunity with this campaign not just to create four exquisite shorts, but to generate new possibilities for writers, both established and struggling, to reach their audiences.”
