Biding its time to the big September 15 publication of Dan Brown's long-awaited follow-up to The Da Vinci Code, Random House is slowly releasing tidbits about The Lost Symbol. Today the publisher unveiled the new jacket for the title, along with a few plot details. Brown's editor at Doubleday, Jason Kaufman, said, in a statement, that the novel is "largely" set in Washington, D.C., but "it's a Washington few will recognize." Kaufman added that the book touches on "an unseen world of mysticism, secret societies, and hidden locations, with a stunning twist that long predates America," which comes as little surprise to Brown's fans.

Random House will also be stoking the Brown waiting game with some promotions over the summer, including a campaign, fed via Twitter and Facebook, requiring readers to break codes, answer trivia questions and unlock hidden messages in things like maps. (RH is hosting everything at the Twitter handle LOSTSYMBOLBOOK and at www.TheLostSymbol.com.)
