Dick Lynch, who has held top management spots with a number of major retailers, has been named president of Paperchase U.S., the stationery and gifts arm of Borders. In the newly created post, Lynch will be responsible for all aspects of Paperchase’s American operation, including the expansion of the store into standalone outlets. Borders acquired the British-based Paperchase in 2004 and after opening several hundred departments within existing stores, the company announced this fall that it planned to roll out Paperchase as unique stores. The first standalone store was opened in Boston October 24, with at least five more planned by the end of January 2009.
Lynch will report to Timothy Melgund, CEO of Paperchase, who called Lynch “uniquely qualified to oversee and expand Paperchase in the U.S. He plays a significantly role in establishing Paperchase as a global brand.”
