Rev. Mark-David Janus, C.S.P., Ph.D., has taken over as president and CEO of the Paulist Press, the publishing house affiliated with the Missionary Society of St. Paul the Apostle, otherwise known as the Paulist Fathers, based in Mahwah, N.J. Paulist Fathers president and superior general Father John Duffy, C.S.P., announced the appointment.
"These are challenging times for the publishing industry," Janus said in a statement, "and I am looking forward to working with the dedicated staff at the Paulist Press. Since the mid-19th century the Paulist Press has been a vital resource for the Church in North America.... The emergence of new communications technologies provides us with the opportunity to ‘present old truths in new forms,' as Paulist founder Servant of God Isaac Hecker once wrote."
Duffy said under the leadership of current publisher and president Father Larry Boadt, C.S.P., "the Press has made significant inroads into the world of digital communications.... Father Mark-David Janus will be able to build upon this legacy while sustaining our core publishing business."
Janus was ordained a Paulist Priest in 1979 and has worked as a psychologist in private practice, teaching at Michigan State University College of Human Medicine, Ohio State University College of Medicine, and other universities. In 2003, he became director of the Catholic Information Center in Grand Rapids, Mich., and in 2008 was appointed rector of the Cathedral of St. Andrew in Grand Rapids
