Self-publishing Web site OffTheBookshelf.com launched two new services last week. The first is a free e-pub converter, which lets users upload a word document and cover, and have them converted into an e-pub format within 24 to 48 hours for sale. The second is an audiobook creator for members, which can be tailored to their preferences. Members can choose a male or female voice, and provide direction such as type of accent, and a professional actor will read their book in an editing facility to create an audiobook.

OffTheBookshelf has attracted close to 900 members since launching four months ago. Most of its offerings are free, though some features have fees. Members pay a one-time set-up fee of $35 for a print book, $45 for copyright filings, and $20 per 1,000 words for an audiobook. All of those features are optional. OffTheBookshelf takes 80 cents per e-book or audiobook, regardless of the price an author sets for the work, and 99 cents per printed book regardless of price.

CEO Scott Weisenthal said the new services “help us build on our mission.”
