Self-publishing platform Blurb is opening a pop-up space in New York City from October 21 to 31--but it won’t be selling any books at the shop. Instead, the store will host free events and workshops, and be open daily for anyone to stop in and learn more about bookmaking.

Blurb Pop-Up/NYC’s events will showcase the kinds of projects people can make using Blurb, encompassing design, photography, fashion, blogs, and fundraising books. The programs include workshops such as “Handmade Gifts for Booklovers,” “Getting Your Work Out There,” and “Photo Books for Beginners to Pros." Among the speakers are Aaron Kenedi, editor-in-chief of Print magazine; former Chronicle Books editor Alan Rapp, and Michael Creagh, who was the first runner-up in the commercial category of Blurb’s Photography Book Now competition last year.

Blurb customer service reps will demonstrate the offerings, and a selection of Blurb books will be available for visitors to look at. All events are free and open to the public, although RSVPs are required for some events that have limited space. Blurb Pop-Up/NYC will be at 60 Mercer Street in SoHo, and will be open from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. daily.
