Capstone Publishers is getting into the holiday spirit by donating $5 million worth of children’s books to Books for Africa, a Minnesota-based nonprofit committed to creating a culture of literacy on that continent. Since 1988, Books for Africa has shipped more than 23 million donated text and library books to 45 countries there. After being sorted and packaged for shipping at Book for Africa’s St. Paul warehouse beginning this week, the 300,000 overstock books donated by Capstone will be shipped to Africa for distribution to schools and libraries. The donated books include both fiction and nonfiction titles from four of Capstone’s seven divisions: Capstone Press (grades preK-9), Compass Point Books (grades 5-12), Picture Window Books (grades preK-4), and Stone Arch Books (grades K-9).

“This incredibly generous donation from Capstone is one of the largest publisher donations received by Books For Africa we can remember, and will fill many, many school libraries across Africa with books,” said Pat Plonski, executive director of Books For Africa.
