In a letter that went out to National Book Network publishers yesterday, president Rich Freese announced that NBN will not be adding any new clients and will downsize instead. “Our goal is to gradually shrink the number of clients we work for in order to serve you better,” he wrote.

Freeze also explained the rationale behind the restructuring of the sales and marketing department that resulted in cutting seven staffers two weeks ago. “We concluded,” he wrote, “that [the NBN Sales team] hadn’t sufficiently evolved with the changing market for print books and importantly e-book sales.”

According to Freeze, the realignment of sales and marketing at NBN will strengthen its position in special markets, e-books, and library markets. The company has added three people to its Fusion e-book team. Its commission rep groups and Blue Ride Summit teams remain unchanged.
