Shambhala Publications has launched Roost Books, its new lifestyle imprint, placing president Nikko Odiseos in charge and assigning Jennifer Urban-Brown and Sara Bercholz as acquiring editors.

The first title under the Roost Books imprint is All Together Singing in the Kitchen by Nerissa and Katryna Nields, a music book for families, set to pub on September 13. Other new titles include Made to Play by Joel Henriques, a craft book filled with ideas to make your own children’s toys—by the creator of the blog MadeByJoel.com, and La Tartine Gourmande, a lifestyle cookbook by Béatrice Peltre, winner of the 2010 Saveur Award for Best Special Interest Blog. Roost Books plans to publish 10 titles annually.

Additionally, some Shambhala and Trumpeter titles that fit Roost Books’ mission—such as those by Amanda Blake Soule and Jennifer Ward—will be moved into the new imprint, which was founded partially because the categories represented in their lifestyle books showed continued growth.

“We have been acquiring in the areas of parenting, craft, and lifestyle for several years now, and we realized that these books have a shared sensibility and audience,” said Julie Saidenberg, Shambhala’s publisher. “By creating a distinct home for them in Roost Books, we’ll be able to better focus our marketing outreach in order to develop and grow that audience.”
