The Hunger Games trilogy held down the top three spots for the month of January on both the physical bestseller list and the Kindle paid bestseller list. After that, however, the two lists look completely different, with no title appearing on both lists.
The physical list included eight hardcovers and skewed toward nonfiction, including two psychology titles (if you include The Psychology of Wealth), while the Kindle bestseller list featured a number of blockbuster fiction titles like The Help and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. In total, the physical bestseller list had five titles first published in 2011 or 2012 (including three published in January 2012), while the Kindle bestseller list had two: Chasing Rainbows by Kathleen Long and Wife by Wednesday by Catherine Bybee. The latter two titles were likely helped by their low price points ($2.99 and $0.99, respectively), and on average, the price of the physical books in the top 10 was $14.47, while the average Kindle book price in the top 10 was $5.82.
