It won't be released until September 27, but J.K. Rowling's The Casual Vacancy has already made its way into Amazon's top 10, hitting #8 the morning of April 16, its fourth day in the top 100 overall. Perhaps because of the small price discrepancy (the hardcover is only $1 more than the e-book), the print sales have far surpassed the e-book, as the e-book is ranked #84 on the Kindle bestseller list.

A larger trend of note is the high number of preorders at the top of Amazon's bestseller list--the top 20 has eight books that haven't been published yet, including the second and third 50 Shades books, which landed on the list at #2 and #3, respectively. The other preorders are The President's Club: Inside the World's Most Exclusive Fraternity by Nancy Gibbs and Michael Duffy (#11, Simon & Schuster), Deadlocked by Charlaine Harris (#14, Ace), The Wind Through the Keyhole: A Dark Tower Novel by Stephen King (#17, Scribner), The Serpent's Shadow by Rick Riordan (#19, Hyperion), and The Passage of Power: The Years of Lyndon Johnson by Robert A. Caro (#20, Knopf).
