Although Prometheus Books announced the launch of its new mystery/thriller imprint, Seventh Street Books, last September the company is using next week’s BookExpo America to give the imprint an official launch.

Heading the October launch are two books the publisher said sets the tone for the new imprint. Mark Pryor's The Bookseller: The First Hugo Marston Novel, is a series mystery that begins with the abduction of an elderly Parisian bookstall owner, the first of several booksellers who start to disappear, their bodies found floating in the Seine. The author, an assistant D.A. in Austin, makes his debut with the book. Erec Stebbins's The Ragnarök Conspiracy is a globe-spanning thriller in which FBI agent John Savas confront an American bin Laden as the world is brought to the brink of war. Both books are paperback originals.

"We think these two introduce Seventh Street Books with a bang," said president of marketing Jill Maxick. Four other new titles and three reprints round out the first list, which is being overseen by Dan Mayer. Prometheus is hoping its second fiction imprint is as successful as its entrance into the science fiction market was with Pyr in 2005. All Seventh Street titles will be released as trade paperbacks, priced at either $13.95 or $15.95 and will be released simultaneously as e-books
