Tor.com has announced that David G. Hartwell and Kathryn Cramer’s anthology Year’s Best Fantasy 9 is available as a print-on-demand paperback, priced at $15.95. The book’s release marks Tor.com’s debut as a publishing entity, distinct from Tor Books and as a separate imprint under Macmillan.
Year’s Best Fantasy 9 is for sale at the Tor.com Store and at Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Powell’s, Indiebound and other venues Ingram distributes to. It is available on Kindle and Sony, and will soon be available as an encrypted ePub by the end of this week. Tor.com is focusing its publicity and marketing efforts online; it will make readers aware of the title via an "aggressive publicity to bookstores," said digital marketing manager Ami Greko. If a bookstore wants to carry the title on its shelves, Greko said, it can order its own POD copies, which are returnable with the same 50% discount as all Macmillan titles.
Tor launched its online bookstore in June, selling Tor books as well as books published by other houses. The store offers science fiction and fantasy media from most major publishers, the only requirement being that books relate to the genre.
