Will Balliett, who moved to Hyperion as editorial director in August from Perseus, has made his first two acquisitions for the imprint. The first is Donny Deutsch's Big Idea: 100 Ways to Make Your Entrepreneurial Dreams Come True, from the Aha! Moment to Your First Million; Wayne Kabak at William Morris sold world rights. In the book, the advertising mogul and CNBC host will provide a practical road map for aspiring entrepreneurs, to be augmented by real-life lessons shared by entrepreneurs who have appeared on Deutsch's The Big Idea. Publication is set for 2008. Deutsch published a business book with HarperCollins, Often Wrong, Never in Doubt, which has 50,000 copies in print.
Balliett also acquired North American rights to Time editor-at-large Eric Pooley's first book, Climate Wars: Politics, Business and the Next Flight to Save the Planet via Suzanne Gluck at William Morris. This will be an insider's account of the political and economic debate over how to save the planet, climaxing with a climate bill that could land on President Bush's desk just before the 2008 elections. Pooley will follow a group of top figures on both sides of the issue to give readers a behind-the-scenes view of the characters and issues that will frame this ongoing debate.
