HarperCollins Leadership (HCL), a new imprint launching at HarperCollins next week, is focusing on “content designed for individuals looking for inspiration, insight, and tools to help activate their inherent leadership potential,” according to the publisher. Brian Hampton, who is also publisher and senior v-p of HarperCollins Christian Publishing’s Nelson Books division, will lead the new imprint. Jeff James will serve as v-p of marketing for HCL.
The first book to be published under HCL will be Building a StoryBrand: Clarify Your Message So Customers Will Listen by Donald Miller, author of the bestselling 2003 memoir Blue Like Jazz (Thomas Nelson) and founder-CEO of the StoryBrand marketing services firm. The book goes on sale October 10.
A second book, Developing the Leader Within You 2.0 by John C. Maxwell, will be published under HCL on January 16. It is an updated reprint of the book, originally published in 2000 by Thomas Nelson.
In addition to book publishing, HCL will release ancillary content for each title, including online learning tools such as video courses, blogs, podcasts, and digital apps.
Building a StoryBrand and Developing the Leader in You 2.0 will each come with related video e-courses from the authors and free digital tools available on HCL’s website.
“We are thrilled about this new opportunity to come alongside emerging leaders, both in businesses and communities, providing a versatile platform to communicate their messages in creative and effective formats,” Hampton said in a statement. The goal, added Hampton, is to publish 12 titles annually.
Although both HCL authors were previously published under HarperCollins Christian’s Thomas Nelson division, and the new imprint is housed within HarperCollins, and is not aimed for a religious market.
