When sales of Fire and Fury were heating up in the first seek of January, Holt was scrambling to meet soaring demand for Michael Wolff's White House tell-all. John Sargent, CEO of Holt parent company Macmillan said the publisher had received orders for 1.4 million copies. On Wednesday, Macmillan announced that it has sold 1.7 million copies of the book, across all formats.
According to NPD BookScan, the book sold abut 324,000 hardcovers in the week ended January 21. That figure marks a 69% jump from the previous week. Fire and Fury has sold almost 555,000 hardcover copies at outlets that report to BookScan, since its January 5 release. Holt said there are now 1.5 million hardcover copies of the book in the market, after 22 printings.
In addition to dominating bestsellers lists jn the U.S., including the PW hardcover list, “Fire and Fury has been sold in 35 foreign territories, including Brazil, China, France, Germany, Israel, Japan, Norway, Russia, Turkey and Vietnam. In the U.K. and Ireland, the book is a #1 bestseller. In Germany, the English language edition of the title is currently #4 on Der Spiegel’s bestseller list.
The book has also been optioned for TV, and will be for a forthcoming series in the U.S.
