Europa Editions has launched Europa Compass, a new nonfiction imprint featuring titles on travel, contemporary culture, popular science, history, philosophy, and politics.
The imprint will publish "informative, entertaining, and diverse" books intended to "introduce Anglophone readers to new voices and points of view from all four corners of the map," the publisher said. It aims to release 6-8 books per year by 2020. According to spokesperson, the Europa Compass list is an international collaboration among the editors in all Europa’s offices—Rome, London, and New York. Editor-in-chief Michael Reynolds is in charge of acquisitions of English language authors for the list, and in charge of the new imprint’s launch in the U.S.
The first title to be published under the Europa Compass imprint will be A Summer with Montaigne, a meditation on the 16th century French philosopher and essayist Michel de Montaigne, by French author, professor, and commentator Antoine Compagnon, this coming May. Other titles to be released in 2019 include Out of Italy, a reissue of a classic treatise on the Italian Renaissance by Fernand Braudel, in July; and The Brilliant Language, a book on ancient Greek by Andrea Marcolongo, this fall.
Europa Compass titles will be "published in a trim size that is slightly smaller than our trademark paperback editions, and many titles will be slim volumes that can be read in a handful of sittings," the publisher said.
