Alessandra Bastagli has been named v-p and publisher of One Signal Publishers, effective February 26, reporting to Libby McGuire, senior v-p and publisher of the Atria Publishing Group. Nicholas Ciani, previously a senior editor acquiring books across the Atria Books, Black Privilege Publishing, and One Signal imprints, has been promoted to executive editor at One Signal.
Bastagli, most recently editorial director at Astra House, succeeds Julia Cheiffetz, the founder and publisher of One Signal, who left the imprint last month. Most recently editorial director at Astra House, Bastagli is a publishing veteran who, over the course of more than two decades, has held roles at Dey Street, the Free Press, Nation Books (now Bold Type), and W.W. Norton, and published such authors as William Deresiewicz, lbram X. Kendi, Alia Malek, Rep. llhan Omar, Kohei Saito, and Jeremy Scahill.
"I am delighted to be returning to Simon & Schuster and honored to take the helm of One Signal Press, an imprint I have admired since its inception," Bastagli said.
Over his four years acquiring books for One Signal, Ciani has acquired such books as The Fabulist by Mark Chiusano, Not Funny by Jena Friedman, Fight Like Hell by Kim Kelly, Invisible Generals by Doug Melville, and forthcoming titles from Charlamagne Tha God, Alice Randall, Brett Sokol, and Jason Stanley.
