I’m delighted to announce my return to Publishers Weekly as senior religion editor. It is especially exciting now to be a part of revitalizing the magazine under new ownership, and PW and Religion BookLine readers can look forward to many innovations over the coming months.

In this issue of RBL, in anticipation of the High Holy Days, we focus on Judaism, with a review of Sue Fishkoff’s Kosher Nation — a broad and deep survey of the Jewish dietary laws and how they have affected the U.S. food industry and American society as a whole — and a profile of veteran journalist Fishkoff. We also feature the Jewish Publication Society’s new Tagged Tanakh Web site, which seeks to bring the ancient text to contemporary readers through modern technology.

On these High Holy days, we wish for our Jewish readers a happy and healthy New Year, and we hope that all our readers will learn from and enjoy this first fall issue.
