Thomas Nelson and Zondervan have partnered to produce the MacArthur Study Bible in the New International Version (NIV) translation that was updated last year. Zondervan has licensed the NIV translation to Thomas Nelson, which will publish the Bible; it is scheduled to release in Fall 2013. The MacArthur Study Bible, with commentary and study aids by John F. MacArthur, is one of the top-selling study Bibles in the world, with more than 1 million copies distributed since its debut in 1997.

The Lankavatara Sutra (Counterpoint, Feb.) is translated by Red Pine (Bill Porter) from the Chinese. Red Pine has translated other major Buddhist texts; the Lankavatara Sutra is an essential text in understanding the development and practice of Zen Buddhism.

The Easter season brings bunnies for some children and Bibles for others. New from Zonderkidz: Little Lion’s Bible and Little Lamb’s Bible, both by P.J. Lyons, illus. by Melanie Mitchell (Feb.), feature plush covers and 10 Bible stories retold in rhyme. Precious Moments: My Easter Bible Storybook (Tommy Nelson, Feb.) uses Precious Moments art to illustrate prayers and scripture readings adapted for young readers. My Best Bedtime Bible: With a Bedtime Prayer to Share (Lion, Feb.) by Sophie Piper, illus. by Claudine Gévry includes toddler-friendly retellings of 10 familiar Bible stories as well as prayers.

Zondervan this month releases the NIV Lessons from Life Bible: Personal Reflections with Jimmy Carter(Mar.) with commentary and study aids by former President and Nobel Peace Prize winner Jimmy Carter. Carter has taught Sunday school for 65 years, and this Bible uses some of the lessons he created for his classes. The foreword was written by Habitat for Humanity International CEO Jonathan T.M. Reckford; President and Mrs. Carter have worked with the organization for many years.

Bible League International is launching the devotional app “21 Days with Jesus” available for download tomorrow (March 1) on all Android and Apple® devices. The devotional readings will begin on March 21 with the passages about Christ’s resurrection from John:19 will occur on Easter Sunday. (Before and after the 21 days, other devotional content will be available.) The app includes Scripture readings from the book of John, discussion questions, and prayer suggestions. A push feature will remind users of the March 21 start date and each of the daily readings.
