The Evangelical Christian Publishers Association (ECPA) recognized the best Christian book and Bible releases of the year with the 2017 Christian Book Awards on Tuesday during its annual Leadership Summit in Colorado Springs, Colo. The top award of the night—Book of the Year—went to Tim Tebow for Shaken: Discovering Your True Identity in the Midst of Life’s Storms, a reflection on overcoming unforeseen challenges and adversity.
A PW Religion Nonfiction Bestseller, Shaken chronicles the disappointment and criticism Tebow faced during his football career. He discusses his time playing in college (for the Florida Gators), winning the Heisman Trophy then his uneven career in the NFL, joining the Denver Broncos then being traded to the New York Jets where was released from his contract after one season.
Tebow, who now plays baseball for the New York Mets, explores how his Christian faith helped him stay grounded throughout the ups and downs of his career.
Other award winners include this year’s Kenneth N. Taylor Lifetime Achievement Award recipient, Dr. Melvin Banks, founder and chairman of Urban Ministries Inc. (UMI)—an independent and African American-owned Christian media and publishing company. The award for best new author went to Rankin Wilbourne for his meditation on the gospel, Union with Christ (David C Cook). For a complete list of the winners, click here.
