Simon & Schuster Lands an Unstoppable Ex-President
President Jimmy Carter will publish a new work on faith with Simon & Schuster, called Faith: A Journey for All. Alice Mayhew, v-p and editorial director of the Simon & Schuster imprint, acquired U.S., Canada, and open market publishing rights from Lynn Nesbit at Janklow & Nesbit Associates. The book will also be published in audiobook by Simon & Schuster Audio.
InterVarsity Inks Three Deals
InterVarsity signed Sharon Brown, author of the bestselling Sensible Shoes series, signed a two-book world rights deal with a new novel tentatively titled Wren's Story dealing with depression and spiritual formation. The second book is a novella featuring Brown’s new character as well an old friend from the Sensible Shoes Series. Cindy Bunch edits both books, releasing in Spring 2020.
Belinda Bauman, founder of One Million Thumbprints and sponsor of the #silenceisnotspiritual initiative, contracted a world rights deal with InterVarsity for a book tentatively titled Brave Soul (world rights) to be released in April 2019. Al Hisu at InterVarsity signed world rights for the next book for Os Guinness, author of books such as The Call, Fool's Talk, and most recently, Impossible People. The new book, repped by the agency Wolgemuth & Associates, is tentatively titled Last Call for Liberty and will be released in early 2019. It will be Guiness's definitive statement on the nature of freedom.
FaithWords Signs Unique Devotional
Editor Keren Baltzer acquired world rights to What a Great Word! 365 Daily Devotions by popular devotional author Karen Ann Moore, represented by Bruce R. Barbour/ Literary Management Group (January 2019). Moore zeroes in on one new, simple word each day showing how it can reveal new insights through the lens of scripture.
Sparkhouse Family Acquires New Picture Books
Sparkhouse Family editor Naomi Krueger acquired world rights for two books that spotlight God’s love and comfort. God’s Protection Covers Me by Amy Houts (Spring 2019) features a rhyming text about all creatures in his care. Huggle Wuggle Bedtime Snuggle by Della Ross Ferreri (Fall 2019) is a bedtime board book that begins with silly play then soothingly ends in prayers and lights out. It’s Ferreri’s second book with Sparkhouse: Precious Baby will be released in Spring 2019.
