In light of David Moberg’s intention to retire in June 2019, HarperCollins Christian Publishing (HCCP) has promoted Brian Hampton from senior v-p and publisher of Nelson Books, an imprint of Thomas Nelson, to Moberg’s role as senior v-p and group publisher.
In his new role, effective immediately, Hampton will oversee all book publishing operations for both Thomas Nelson and Zondervan and the associated imprints. He is tasked with setting the strategy and direction for all trade, children’s, specialty, and curriculum publishing, developing new business initiatives, and more, according to a press release. Hampton reports directly to Mark Schoenwald, president and CEO, and is on the company’s executive leadership team.
Moberg will stay on in a leadership role until his retirement, including working on special projects, mentoring key staff, and providing counsel to the executive leadership team during transition. He will also remain on the board of directors for the Evangelical Christian Publishers Association.
“This is an exciting time for both Brian and the company, and I appreciate the support shown to me throughout my career in publishing," Moberg said in a statement. "I am confident that Brian’s transition to group publisher will be smooth as he is more than prepared to take on this role.”
