Bruce Nygren, senior editor at WaterBrook and Multnomah and who is well known for working with authors such as Tim Tebow, Franklin Graham, and the late Eugene Peterson, is retiring after more than 40 years in the book publishing industry as of December 31. Nygren’s career began at Thomas Nelson in 1977 as associate editor before rising to v-p of book editorial. He later worked as editorial director for NavPress, co-writer and editor for FamilyLife, and acquisitions editor for Moody Publishers before joining WaterBrook and Multnomah in 2003.
Some notable titles of Nygren's career include Fearless: The Undaunted Courage and Ultimate Sacrifice of Navy SEAL Team SIX Operator Adam Brown by Eric Blehm (2013) and Called for Life: How Loving Our Neighbor Led Us into the Heart of the Ebola Epidemic by Kent and Amber Brantly (2015).
His plans for retirement include to “rest, reflect, reframe,” he told PW. Laura Barker, v-p and editor-in-chief at WaterBrook and Multnomah, praised Nygren’s work at the imprints of Penguin Random House and spoke of the legacy he will leave behind.
“Bruce has shaped countless books across a variety of genres, from memoir and self-help to parenting and general Christian living,” she told PW. “Not only has he served our authors and our publishing team with excellence, but Bruce has also generously invested his time in mentoring less-experienced colleagues.”
