It’s Not Supposed to be This Way, in which the president of Proverbs 31 Ministries Lysa TerKeurst reflects on her husband’s infidelity, remains at #2 on PW’s Religion Nonfiction chart for December. Interest in the book increased after TerKeurst announced to her over 500,000 followers on Instagram that she and her husband had renewed their vows on December 11. Additionally, the book was available at Walmart with a free accompanying six-session video Bible study. It’s Not Supposed to be This Way is also Proverbs 31’s online Bible study pick for January.
Brian Houston returned to PW’s Religion Nonfiction bestsellers list at #4 with There is More, which initially debuted on the list at #6 in April. The first chapter was available for free through Houston’s website, while several chapters were also available via his podcast during the month of December.
Karen Kingsbury held the top perch as well as #2 in Religion Fiction with two books in the Baxter Family series, which saw holiday promotions and discounts on Christianbook.com, Amazon, and more. Last-minute holiday shopping also boosted sales of three books by veteran romance writer Francine Rivers, whose 2017 novel The Masterpiece landed at #3.
