Finding Saints in Fiction
Brazos Press acquisitions editor Robert Hosack has signed a world rights deals for two books by Jessica Hooten Wilson, associate professor of literature at John Brown University. In The Scandalous Holy: Following Literary Saints on the Path to a Fuller Life (spring 2022), Wilson explores how readers can find “saints” —exemplars of virtue — in great novels, even works that scandalize the imagination such as the "whiskey priest" in Graham Greene's The Power and the Glory. In How to Read Like a Christian ( spring 2023), she outlines seven classical rules for reading as a spiritual practice . Keely Boeving of WordServe Literary represented Wilson.
D. Michael Lindsay Pivots to IVP
Sociologist and Gordon College president D. Michael Lindsay, author of View from the Top and Faith in the Halls of Power, has signed a world rights deal for his first book with IVP. Hinge Moments (April 2021) will look at how managing critical decisions “can change our lives for the better. Getting them wrong can pose problems for years to come.” Edward Gilbreath, IVP executive editor, acquired the title. The author represented himself.
Jenny Albers Signs with Thomas Nelson
Thomas Nelson has signed blogger and writer Jenny Albers for a book tentatively titled Courageously Expecting. Albers, who writes for websites Today and Her View From Home, empathizes with and empowers women to face pregnancy after a loss with faith and courage. Jessica Wong, associate publisher, took world rights to the book in the deal brokered by Blythe Daniel, The Blythe Daniel Agency. Courageously Expecting is set for a January 2022 release.
