Chrissy Metz, best known for her role as Kate Pearson on the TV series This Is Us, is writing a children’s book about prayer along with her partner, Bradley Collins. When I Talk to God, I Talk About You is slated for publication at Flamingo, an imprint of Penguin Young Readers, on February 14, 2023. The picture book, which will feature illustrations by New York City-based artist Lisa Fields, depicts a parent who prays to God for their child as the little one grows up.
In a statement announcing When I Talk to God, I Talk About You, Metz and Collins called the book “a tender introduction to prayer” that takes readers on “a journey through the dream of raising a child and watching them grow right before your eyes.”
Cait Hoyt at CAA brokered world English rights for When I Talk to God, I Talk About You to Flamingo’s v-p and publisher Margaret Anastas and associate editor Cheryl Eissing. Christy Ewers at the CAT Agency represented the illustrator.
When asked what stood out to her about Metz and Collins’s book, Eissing told PW: “From the start, they were so sure of the message they wanted to convey about the importance of faith in one’s life, especially at a young age.”
Though details about the marketing and publicity campaign are not yet available, the initial print run for When I Talk to God, I Talk About You is 150,000 copies, according to the publisher.
Metz has been nominated for an Emmy Award and two Golden Globe Awards for her role on This Is Us, which ran for six seasons and culminated with a series finale on May 24. She starred on the TV series American Horror Story and in the film Breakthrough, and she is the author of a memoir, This Is Me: Loving the Person You Are Today (Dey Street, 2018). Collins is a songwriter based in Nashville, Tenn.
