“Inspired by an offhand comment from a friend and a lifelong love of Moby-Dick, I set out to create an illustration for each of the 552 pages of the novel. I set only two rules for myself: to create a single illustration per page every single day, and to proceed through the novel in a linear fashion from page 1 to page 552. I created almost all of the illustrations on found paper harvested from old discarded books in an effort to visually mirror the complex, multilayered nature of the text. Over the course of 543 days, I completed my task and experienced the novel in an intense and visceral way that I will never forget.”
