BookExpo America panel descriptions have been posted on the BEA Website for uPublishU, the day-long conference devoted to self-publishing which will take place on Sunday, June 3 at the Javits Center in New York City. Highlights include the keynote panel “Break Through & Publish YOU!” featuring moderator Christopher Kenneally (director, Business Development & Author Relations at Copyright Clearance Center) and speakers Mark Coker (founder, Smashwords), Sandy Poirier-Diaz (president, Smith Publicity), Craig LaPinta (product manager, Publishing at Lulu).
The event will also feature two self-published authors who have recently signed book deals with traditional publishers including Darcie Chan, who has been on The New York Times Bestseller List and USA Today Bestseller List and who has sold over 570,000 copies of her e-book. Other speakers include agents Steve Axelrod (who has been behind many New York Times bestselling authors) and Amanda Hocking. All the speakers will open up on what an author can do to create buzz about their books, how to get discovered in search engines, ideas for selling, as well as provide insights on ebooks and print books.
“The time for self-publishing has clearly arrived,” notes Steve Rosato, show manager for BEA. “We are pleased to provide this opportunity and education for authors at BEA, and even more pleased be able to reduce the price for attending this conference. Our new low price should make this easily accessible to hundreds of writers as it certainly provides an enormous value for only $99.
